In an initiative to boost the Indian startup community and help the entrepreneurs in the country, the instant messaging app platform, WhatsApp has collaborated with Startup India and is investing $250,000 to achieve the goal.

As per the plan, WhatsApp will be providing $500 of Facebook ad credits to each of those 500 startups that will be approved by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).  The instant messaging app company is doing so to ensure that by posting free ads (amounting to $500) and inviting customers to click open a chat on WhatsApp upcoming startups could increase customer connect.

As far as being eligible for this $500 ad credit is concerned, the startups should be at a scalable stage or early traction and that they must be recognized by DPIIT apart from having an active Facebook page. Those startups that are interested in taking this help can apply here! After the successful registration and approval, free Facebook ad credits worth $500 will be given to the first 500 entries.

According to the sources, this investment is taking place on the sidelines of another initiative called “The Startup India-WhatsApp Grand Challenge“ for which WhatsApp had collaborated with Startup India. In this initiative, a grant worth $50,000 was awarded to five Grand Challenge winners who came up with India-specific solutions for resolving socio-economic problems.

“Startups and small businesses are the lifeblood of Indian communities and are a powerful driver of local economies,” said Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp India. “India’s entrepreneurs are at the forefront of bringing impactful social and economic change, and we at WhatsApp are committed to providing them support in achieving success.” Ever since WhatsApp Business has gone live, around 1 million small and medium businesses have registered on WhatsApp Business in India.

The last three years witnessed over 19,000 startups getting registered with the Startup India program spanning 513 districts covering all 29 States and 7 Union Territories.
